🚨 Lightroom external drive & speed workflow update - There's a new possible Lightroom workflow to reduce the need for a main external storage drive for images and massively increase speed and performance for a select group of individuals.

I have personally experienced a massive speed increase and a great time saver working with and loading larger files from Sony a7rIV 41+MB files and Nikon d850 51+MB files for myself and clients. See if this workflow is for you.

If you purchase a new iMac 24" with at least a 2TB SSD storage with the M1 chip or the new MacBook Pro laptop with the M1 chip, with a larger, 2,4, or 8TB internal SSD drive, then you can eliminate the need for a main image external drive. The speed and performance of these machines top any previous Mac or PC as tested by 3rd party testers and from my own personal experience.

The MacBook Pro laptop route is the most powerful choice and offers higher storage potential, up to 8TB, however the 24" iMac will outperform anything you may have currently except a custom Mac tower. This new M1 chip processor architecture performs so much better than any other ever made that the Lightroom and other Adobe products function at their optimal under this workflow set up. You will now be able to have your main Lightroom image storage on the computer itself, however you will still need the recommended external back up drive set up through a back up copy program like Carbon Copy to protect your images.
